Microsoft Virtual Earth updates

For those of you who haven't seen the update posted for this month, Microsoft has updated their imagery to the Virtual Earth platform. This new update consists of 27.32 TB of data and includes 3D city models, high resolution aerial imagery, satellite imagery, and road data for three communities in Iowa: Des Moines, Sioux City, and Waterloo. Combine that with last month's update that included the Quad Cities and there are some nice updates that are taking place via the online mapping sites.

Over the river and through the woods..........

Just in time for all of you who are traveling to (or through) lovely Davenport for the holiday season, Microsoft Virtual Earth has unveiled a ton of new imagery around the world that includes a nice update for Davenport that includes 3D structures and 15cm aerial photography draped on top.

Maybe you aren't headed to Davenport but someplace less exotic (full list of updates here).

If you do make it to Davenport and have some free time available, maybe you could look up Ray Weiser(600 West 4th St). I tried panning around to see if he stuck his head out the window and waved on the day the imagery was acquired but I didn't see him.

You will need to install the Microsoft viewer software to get the full functionality if you haven't already done so, but its worth it. Don't forget to turn click on the 3D button to get the full picture.
